The University is guided by the Vice-Chancellor\u2019s vision of \u201cPositioning UJ in the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) for societal impact in the context of the changing social, political, and economic fortunes of Africa\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Job description<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Job Description:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This position is responsible for professional security protection, safeguarding, safety, and security of assets, property, staff, students and all visitors, within the immediate vicinity of the University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Responsibilities:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Security Services<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Protect the property of UJ, staff, students and visitors through physical patrolling of the premises and access control.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ensure that students, staff and visitors adhere to security policies<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ensure that physical security infrastructure (e.g. gates, street lights, burglar proofing) are in proper working condition and report any defects.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Patrol University premises to prevent and detect signs of intrusion and ensure security of doors, windows, and gates are closed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Identify, report and act timeously on emergency incidents as instructed by the control room\/duty room.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Secure crime scenes according to training until supervisors arrive.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ensure that the necessary documents are completed with regards to a specific incident.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Take down and give an accurate statement of situations both verbally and in writing.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Monitor and operate Security Systems when required<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Undertake preliminary investigations into reports of offences as required<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Provide escort duties for staff at night.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Attend and pro-actively deal with any security-related incident, as directed by the control room operator, supervisor, or other member of protection services management team.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Record all incidents in the appropriate format and write concise and accurate incident reports as necessary.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Look for abandoned bags during shift change and hand them to safe keeping.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Conduct searches as required.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Control the safeguarding and issuing of keys.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Upkeep an admin system regarding lost and found.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enforce and comply with the University\u2019s rule SOPs, rules, regulations and policies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Access Control<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Check all personnel access permits, visitor\u2019s permits, vehicle permits.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Search bags, vehicles as per standard operating procedures in accordance with the risk rating.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Check material removal permits and verify content and authorisation signature.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Lock and secure gates and doors after hours.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Customer Services<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Ensure a friendly, helpful, and effective protection service is provided to all staff, students and visitors.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Carry out duties, e.g. in connection with events days, open days; public, visitor or staff demonstrations and attend and assist at any emergency incident as directed by senior personnel. Present a professional image to&nbsp;clients through appearance and conduct.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Health and Safety<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Assist in emergency situations such as fire or medical-related incidents by acting as the first line of response.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Operate security-related and personal protective equipment following departmental procedures, ensuring the equipment is clean and stored correctly, reporting any faults to senior personnel<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Professional Development<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Undertake staff training as required; and receive guidance and instruction from the senior personnel when necessary.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Minimum requirements<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Grade 12 \/ Matric \/ NQF4 equivalent qualification<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Valid Grade C PSIRA registration<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Computer Literary (Basic Microsoft Packages)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Clearance record from South African Police Services.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Valid Driver\u2019s License<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Minimum 2 years\u2019 experience in security services<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A level of medical, psychological, and physical fitness commensurate with the inherent requirements of the position<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Working conditions:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Shift work in line with the operational requirements of the University (i.e. 24\/7\/365), including but not limited to straight day, or night shifts, alternating shifts, etc.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Travel or work between different sites may be required<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Required to wear a uniform and work in all weather conditions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Recommendations:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Preference will be given to applicants with security\/risk management qualifications NQF5 or equivalent<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Preference will be given to applicants with knowledge of Impro Portal, Nimbus, and video management systems<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Preference will be given to applicants with experience in educational or corporate campus security environment<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Preference will be given to applicants with a Professional drivers permit (PDP)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Preference will be given to applicants with higher PSIRA Grades or Accreditation (e.g. Grade A or B, Armed Reaction)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Preference will be given to applicants with a valid SAPS fire-arm competency certificate<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Preference will be given to applicants with training\/experience in firefighting and first aid<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Enquiries:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>All enquiries relating to this advert must be directed to the HCM Department:&nbsp;<\/strong>Sarah Skhosana at Tel: (011) 559-4018 (HCM Business Partner)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Your application, comprising of a detailed Curriculum Vitae as well as the names and full contact details (including telephone numbers and e-mail addresses) of at least three traceable and credible referees must be uploaded before or on the closing date of the advertised post.
